Shear strength and yield surface of a partially saturated sandy silt under generalized stress states

چکیده
This paper studies the hydromechanical behavior of a slightly compacted mixture sand and clayey silt (30%/70%) under generalized stress state. The experimental study focused on analyzing yielding response shear strength at different states (characterized by intermediate principal parameter b, or Lode angle) initial total suctions (as-compacted state). For investigation, hollow cylinder apparatus was used. results allowed defining variation critical state line with angle suction. Different models were proposed for isotropic anisotropic yield surfaces, their shape rotation calibrated results. modeled surfaces fitted reasonably well results, considering inclination dependence suction, mean deviatoric stresses, angle. In addition, some relationships between stresses model parameters to normalize surface equation.

The Suction Pressure, Yield Strength and Effective Stress of Partially Saturated Unbound Granular Pavement Layers
The predominant mode of distress for unbound pavement layers is the permanent deformation of the layer either through gradual deformation or rapid shear failure of the layer. Several researchers have related both these forms of permanent deformation to the ratio of the imposed stress over the shear strength of the material. Conventionally, the shear strength of the material was characterised wi...

Experimental Study on the Effect of Crumb Rubber on Shear Strength of Sandy Soil
Nowadays, soil reinforcement using polymer elements have been investigated by a number of researchers in order to increase the load capacity of soils. Reinforcing soils using fibers is a method of soil improvement, which offers a homogenous mixture in combination with soils, regarding their tensile strength. This combination maintains pressure loading capacity and properties in mutual resistant...

Mechanical properties of the orthorhombic phase of YBa2Cu3O7-δ (Y-123) at room temperature have been investigated at different applied loads using nanoindentation technique. The study was carried out for several monodomains on the (001) planes for textured Bridgman samples with dispersed Y2BaCuO5 (Y-211) particles as pinning centers. The yield strength (σys), shear stress (τm) and toughness (KI...
متن کاملOn the relationship between uniaxial yield strength and resolved shear stress in polycrystalline materials
Attempts to correlate radiation-induced microstructural changes with changes in mechanical properties rely on a well-established theory to compute the resolved shear stress required to move dislocations through a ®eld of obstacles. However, this microstructure-based shear stress must be converted to an equivalent uniaxial tensile stress in order to make comparisons with mechanical property meas...
